Logan's Visit

Will checked the clock. Logan had given them an ETA, and Will wanted to make sure everything was ready for his stay. He and Kevin had set up a makeshift bedroom area in the loft, sectioned off with screens, and put a futon in it. And since their own bedroom was pretty much the same set up on the opposite side of the loft, they'd agreed to put the nookie on hold.

"Babe, did you put towels in the bathroom?" Will called to Kevin while he fed Wendell.

"Doing it now," Kevin called back. "And stop looking at the clock."

"How'd you know?" Will laughed.

"I know you," was the reply. "It's an estimated time of arrival, so stop clock watching. When he gets here, we'll grab something to eat and give him a chance to rest up from the trip."

Kevin walked out of the bathroom and over to Will. "Thanks for arranging the skydiving, by the way. I'm really excited to get up there in the morning."

"Me too," Will nodded, giving Kevin a kiss on the cheek. "I was thinking that afterwards we could head out to the Fourth of July festival at the base and stay for the fireworks."

"Hey, I'm easy," Kevin smiled. "You two can do the planning and I'll go along for the ride."

Logan laughed, "Isn't that what dogs are for?" He unzipped his duffel bag slightly, reached in and pulled out a small fabric squeaky toy in the shape of a pig. He squeaked it a couple of times and handed it to Kevin apologetically. "The lady at the pet store assured me that dogs loved these things... Although now I'm thinking they might be awfully annoying until the squeaker breaks."

A smile and a nod to Will as he handed him the duffel bag, "Thanks."

Looking around as he followed Will, he said, "You guys have quite the place here. Very nice."

"Thanks," Will said, leading him past the living room area. "I kind of like how everything's open like this. We have lots of space and light this way." He grinned at Logan and indicated his makeshift bedroom. "I hope you don't mind no doors, though. But I figure we're all guys, right? And at least the bathroom has a door on it," he added with a chuckle.

He smiled at Will, "No, don't mind at all. This is great thank you. Actually, I really like the setup you guys have here. I would imagine using the screens come in rather handy. Instant spare room when you need one and when you don't you have the open space instead. Although in saying that, I'm glad to hear the bathroom has a door - a little privacy is always nice in there."

"No kidding," Will laughed. "And when Kevin starts singing in the shower, you really want to be able to close that door."

Suddenly, Will was hit in the head with Wendell's new squeak toy, and the little dog raced up to him as he chased after it.

"Sorry," Kevin grinned, raising a hand. "Bad throw."

Kevin ducked when Will picked up the toy and sent it sailing back at him, again making Wendell run after it with excited yips.

"Will, you're being rude," Kevin laughed. "Offer Logan a drink."

Will scowled at Kevin, then turned to his friend. "Logan, may I interest you in a drink? We've got pretty much everything."

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan chuckled at the scene.

"Yeah, a drink would be good. Um, a beer would be great if you guys are having one, otherwise a any kind of juice you have would work too."

Turning to Kevin, "Will was saying you recently moved into vice. Congratulations. How are you enjoying it?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Beers all around, then," Will nodded and headed for the kitchen.

"I'm loving it, thanks," Kevin said, smiling as he invited Logan to take a seat on the couch, and took a seat in a chair. "It's something I've dreamed of doing since I joined the department, so I'm still pretty giddy. And what do you do? Will was pretty sketchy with the details."

"I said you guys could probably talk about guns," Will said with a wink as he brought out the drinks. He handed a bottle of beer to Logan, then Kevin, and took a seat on the couch with his own.

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Taking a seat on the couch, he made himself comfortable. "I would imagine that would be pretty exciting work. I bet you met the most interesting of people."

Smiling as he accepted the beer from Will, he thanked him then took a swallow. "For the past few years, I've been working as a Freelance Investigator. Which sounds much more exciting than it usually is."

"Have you ever had the opportunity to take a gun out at the firing range Will?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-07 10:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Kevin's taken me out a couple of times," Will nodded. "He wants me to know how to handle the guns he keeps at home."

"Always good to know how to protect yourself," Kevin shrugged and sat forward a little. "So, Logan, what kind of stuff do you do as a freelancer?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-07 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"What do you think of it? Shooting a gun I mean."

"Yes, I have to agree with you there," he nodded, then shrugged. "Pretty much anything and everything. Really ends up depending on the case and what needs to be done. I would imagine it's fairly similar to some of the stuff you'd deal with in being a cop, just privately hired. The last case I had was breaking up an extortion operation. Sometimes it leads to protection, going undercover, retrieval... really pretty much anything. Oh, and I can't forget surveillance." He rolled his eyes, "Lots and lots of surveillance."

"I liked it," Will said, then took a sip of his beer. "I felt confident. Muy macho. That kind of thing."

Kevin smiled and shook his head at Will. "Well, Logan, you sound like you've got a really good gig going. There probably aren't the restrictions the police have, and you have more control over your operation. It sounds great." He chuckled. "Except for the surveillance part since... Well, since it's surveillance. But the rest of it sounds like it'll definitely hold your attention."

Re: visit

Logan chuckled, "It does come with a rush in the beginning, doesn't it?"

"I can't complain. I've got the freedom to take the jobs I want, move when the urges strikes and travel all over the country." Small shrug then a grin, "And, no paperwork, or very little. Although I might be willing to trade that for the amount of times I end up getting shot at or in a confrontation. The lack of a badge translates into a lack of authority or leverage for them to do what I ask." He took a swallow of beer then asked, "How long have you been a cop?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-08 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"Seven years," Kevin said. "Joined the academy when I was 20. Never wanted to do anything else." He grinned. "Have you always done freelance stuff? Or were you in law enforcement before?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-08 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Logan shook his head, "No, it started off as a favor to a friend and snowballed from there. Before that, I was in the Air Force."

Smiling at Will, "How about you, Will? Have you always been interested in business?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-09 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"A military man," Kevin smiled. "Excellent. I work with a lot of Marines."

"It's what I've done for my entire career, but I've never been interested in it," Will laughed. "I went into banking because of my father."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah? As in they've moved into law enforcement or does your department work cooperatively with a local unit?"

Logan smiled, "Now's the perfect opportunity for you to explore other options. How's the writing and photography coming along?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"There are a good number of officers in the reserves or who're retired from the corps," Kevin explained, then looked at Will. "You like photography?"

"Oh," Will grinned, "it's something I've thought about dabbling in, and maybe writing stories about the pictures I take." He looked at Logan. "The writing's coming along slowly, the photography's still on the back burner."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-10 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Logan nodded. "The two fields do work well together and it seems to be a natural career shift. Military to either law enforcement or investigation type work. When I got out I didn't find there to be a lot of options otherwise."

He smiled, "Sounds like your enjoying it though. Something you might turn into a career do you think?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-12 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure," Will shrugged. "I've never really done it as more than a hobby. I don't think I'd ever actually get published."

"You won't know 'til you try," Kevin frowned. "Think positively."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
Logan nodded, "I have to agree with Kevin. You never know until you give it a try. What's the worst they can come back with?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't take rejection well," Will said, making a pained face.

"Bullshit," Kevin countered. "You just don't give yourself any credit for anything you do, so you quit before you begin."

Will blushed a little and looked at Logan. "I'm married to Dr. Phil."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Logan gave Will a small frown, "Isn't Dr. Phil the aging bald man on daytime TV who supposedly gives out really good sound advice?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, he is," Will said, frowning at Kevin.

"Besides the aging bald part, I'm pretty close," Kevin grinned and got up from his chair to take a seat on the other side of Will. "Don't be mad," he said and gave Will a kiss. "I only bug you because I believe in you." He glanced at Logan and winked. "Hopefully, Logan'll bug you, too, so you'll be outnumbered."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-17 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan smiled, "I'd be more than happy to! I think you should go after something you'd enjoy doing. You have the oppertunity, it would be a shame to let it slip threw your fingers."

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-07-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay, I'm getting the picture, no pun intended," Will laughed. "It's good to know I've got support, though."

"Always," Kevin smiled, nudging Will with his elbow.

Will smiled at him. "Now that we have that settled, what does everyone think about food? As in eating some soon.?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-07-22 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan smiled, "Always happy to help... or become a nag - whatever's needed."

Nodding, "Food would be good. Have anything in mind? With all the cutbacks, they've stopped serving anything on the plane. Not that the food they served was anything special but..." A shrug accompanied by a small smile, "I could definitely go for something."
