Logan's Visit

Will checked the clock. Logan had given them an ETA, and Will wanted to make sure everything was ready for his stay. He and Kevin had set up a makeshift bedroom area in the loft, sectioned off with screens, and put a futon in it. And since their own bedroom was pretty much the same set up on the opposite side of the loft, they'd agreed to put the nookie on hold.

"Babe, did you put towels in the bathroom?" Will called to Kevin while he fed Wendell.

"Doing it now," Kevin called back. "And stop looking at the clock."

"How'd you know?" Will laughed.

"I know you," was the reply. "It's an estimated time of arrival, so stop clock watching. When he gets here, we'll grab something to eat and give him a chance to rest up from the trip."

Kevin walked out of the bathroom and over to Will. "Thanks for arranging the skydiving, by the way. I'm really excited to get up there in the morning."

"Me too," Will nodded, giving Kevin a kiss on the cheek. "I was thinking that afterwards we could head out to the Fourth of July festival at the base and stay for the fireworks."

"Hey, I'm easy," Kevin smiled. "You two can do the planning and I'll go along for the ride."

"Ouch. I'm sorry to hear that." Logan nodded. "That's understandable - him wanting and needing to take some time."

Pausing a moment, "Your Mom, she kinda sees Peter as family though doesn't she? She'd want the best for both of you and knowing you are both the best, it would only make sense for her. Perhaps she just needs to see that you've found someone else who's in the same class."

"If it wouldn't sound really weird, I'd say Peter and I could be brothers," Will smiled at his friend. "You may be right about the way Mom sees my relationship with him. I hadn't really thought about it that way. I know that since I've been gone, he's been her surrogate son."

Logan nodded, "It may sound weird, but it makes sense too. You guys have known each other a long time." Returning the smile, "It sounds like she misses you quiet a bit. It's kinda nice that Peter can be there for her. For you too, you know she's being looked after."

Will nodded, a little more somber. "Since my dad died, I've been worried about her but I was close by to keep an eye on her. Pete's really eased my mind since I moved out here, though. My mom's a smart woman, but she's never really had to take care of herself. I know I should give her more credit for having a brain in her head, but that's not always easy."

Logan shrugged slightly, "She's your Mom, it's your job to worry. I've never found it had anything to do with how capable or smart she is, it's just the fact that she's your Mom. My Mom raised two boys on her own after Dad died, I knew she was completely capable to take care of herself but I still worried constantly. You wouldn't be a good son if you didn't."

Will had to smile at that. Sometimes it was better hearing something from someone else, especially since he tended to overanalyze everything.

"Thanks, Logan," he said softly, nodding.

"Okay, who's starving?" Kevin called from the kitchen. "Dinner's going to be ready in ten minutes."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-05 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan smiled and nodded.

Looking over to the kitchen, he called back, "Can't wait, Kevin. It smells delicious."

Returning his attention to Will, "Do you both like to cook?"

"I'm not as good as Kev is, but I do like getting in there and trying things," Will smiled. "What about you?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan grinned, "Well, I don't burn water." He shrugged, "I kinda go by the motto if it takes longer to cook than it does to eat then it's not worth the effort. What kind of things do you like to make?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Will laughed at Logan's assessment. "I think you're on to something there. Sometimes it's fun to put some effort into thing, I find. But only sometimes. I like to make quick, healthy stuff most of the time." He narrowed his eyes for a second. "The last thing I made was egg white omelets for us yesterday morning. Simple and easy."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan nodded, "Simply and easy is always the best. I try to eat healthy for the most part as well. When situation allows anyway." He paused a moment and looked in the direction of the kitchen. "Should we give Kevin a hand at all?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-09-06 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Will leaned in and whispered, "He doesn't like anyone in his kitchen unless he asks."

At that moment, Kevin called, "Who feels like helping with the salad?"

Will laughed and stood up. "I was just telling Logan I steer clear of the kitchen unless you need me."

"Good," Kevin grinned, winking at them.

In a quiet voice to Will, "That's so no one can steal his secrets."

Logan laughed as he stood, "Great minds think alike."

Will laughed, too. "I knew there had to be a good reason."

"Okay, you two. One of you can do lettuce, one can cut tomatoes," Kevin said.

"Yes, sir!" Will said with a little salute. "Logan? Any preference?"

Re: visit

Looking over Kevin's shoulder, "That does smell really good. I'm gonna have to head out this way for dinner more often."

Grinning at Will's antics, "I'll do the tomatoes. Wedges work?"

"You are always welcome to stop by for dinner whenever you're in town," Kevin smiled at him. "And wedges are perfect."

"Would you like me to make little lettuce strips or chunks?" Will asked, putting his arms around Kevin's waist and kissing his neck.

"Just wash and tear like always, smart ass," Kevin chuckled. "And thanks, Logan. I hope it tastes good. It'll be nice to have an appreciative audience for my slaving over a hot stove."

Will playfully rolls his eyes and tends to the lettuce.

Logan smiled, "Thanks. I appreciate that. One day I may just turn up on your doorstep." A small laugh, "I'll call first of course"

Working on the tomatoes, "I have no doubt that it will. And, I'm sure Will shows his appreciation in... other ways."

Re: visit

Will laughed and threw a piece of lettuce at Kevin's head. "I think he's on to us."

"Yeah, our relationship is so subtle," Kevin grinned good naturedly and turned off the heat on the grill pan. "Meat," he said, putting the steaks on a platter and taking it to the dining table.

"He's such a cave man," Will said softly, chuckling.

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-09 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Logan laughed. "When it comes to steak, I can't say that I blame him."

Finishing up with the tomatoes, "Tomatoes are done, where do you want 'em?"

Re: visit

"You can toss them in here," Will said, moving the salad bowl over to Logan. "I'm really glad you're here," he smiled. "And I'm glad that you're getting to meet Kevin. I don't have a whole lot of friends anymore. Talia got them in the divorce."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Logan gave Will a small smile. "I'm quite happy to be here, thanks again for inviting me. This is really nice, not something I've done in a long time."

He transferred the tomatoes into the salad. "And, it's nice to meet the man in your life after reading so much about him. Actually that goes for you too, it's great to finally meet you in person." He nodded, "That's understandable. It takes time to rebuild after something like that I'd imagine."

"Salad people," Kevin called from the dining area. "What's the hold up?"

"Oh god, the master's calling," Will laughed, winking at Logan. "I'll give you twenty bucks if you replace his parachute with a backpack full of confetti tomorrow."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Logan chuckled and patted Will on the shoulder. "I'll even throw in the streamers for free."

A quick look around the kitchen, "Is there anything else that needs to be brought out?"

Re: visit

[identity profile] ex-will-port106.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Will giggled and shook his head. "No, I think we're good."

"Grab the bread, please," Kevin called.

"Except for the bread," Will laughed, then whispered to Logan. "Free streamers? You've got yourself a deal."

Re: visit

[identity profile] logan-maxwell.livejournal.com 2006-09-15 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Laughing, Logan spotted the bread ready on the counter, and moved to pick it up. "Got the bread, check."

Giving Will a quick wink, Logan took the bread into the dining area.
