Title: Reaching Out
Fandom: Original
Prompt: 10. Making Up
Rating: PG for a couple of bad words
Word Count: 500
Note: Takes place after Peter got snippy with Will during their last phone call.

"Hello?"

"Hey, Pete, it's me."

"Oh... Hey, Will. Where are you?"

"I'm using Sandy's cell phone. I wasn't sure you'd answer if you knew it was me."

"Why?"

"You're mad at me."

"Why do you say that?"

"Because you got pissy with me yesterday when I started talking about Kevin. And you hung up on me."

"I didn't hang up. I said I had to go."

"Well, it felt like you hung up. What's going on? What did I do?"

"Will... Look, it took me by surprise that you're already getting so serious about this guy. Last I heard, you were seeing him casually; suddenly, you're ready to live together."

"I said we were talking about it."

"But talking's the first stage, right?"

"I guess it is, but... You're..."

"What?"

"Nothing."

"No, what?"

"You're acting like you're jealous."

"Jealous? Will, that's... Honestly..."

"I get it. Stupid question. Forget I said anything."

"That's not it."

"Then what?"

"Maybe... I am. A little. It's just... I'm not used to you being interested in anyone but me, fucked as that sounds. I'm selfish. I don't want you meeting someone who'll make you forget me."

"Peter..."

"Yeah...?"

"Listen very carefully to what I'm about to say."

"Okay."

"You're an idiot."

"Thanks."

"You know I love you, fool. You're my best friend, and no one can take your place. Kevin and I have already talked about that, and he completely understands how important you are to me."

"He does?"

"Yup."

"I'm starting to like this guy."

"I thought you'd like that. And guess what?"

"What?"

"I told him about our conversation--"

"Man, why'd you do that?"

"Listen to me. I told him, and he knew exactly what the problem was."

"He did?"

"He did. He's why I called you, so, before you keep thinking that he's going to replace you, why don't you let me help you get to know him?"

"Well, you can start by telling me what you like so much about him."

"Easy. I love the way he makes me feel."

"And how's that?"

"As if I've known him my whole life. As if we can just sit together quietly and not have to say a word because even the silences are comfortable."

"Sounds like us."

"It does. That's why I know you'd like him. We just... click. And he really seems to like me."

"Of course he likes you. Who wouldn't?"

"You're biased."

"Damn right. I'm supposed to be."

"Good point."

"Will?"

"Yeah?"

"I'm sorry. I really am. I was out of line. It's your life. You're allowed to be with whoever you want. And, if this guy--"

"Kevin."

"If Kevin makes you happy, then I'm glad he's in your life."

"Thanks, Pete. He does, you know."

"I'm...glad. And... I shouldn't have been so shitty to you."

"It's okay, sweetheart. I know you were just concerned."

"Yeah, I was. So... we're good now?"

"We're good."

"Okay. Listen, I've got to go, for real. Love you, Will."

"Love you, too."
